Grid Snapping

Typing "/gadgets grid 8" for example, will snap all movement and resizes to an 8 pixel grid.
Type "/gadgets grid" with no number to reset snapping.


Quick Start



You will see a round button with a Gear icon in the middle of your screen. Drag this button to where you want it by left clicking and dragging.

Right click on the button and choose 'Add Gadget' to add a gadget to your screen.

Left clicking on the button will unlock (and re-lock) all of your gadgets. When unlocked, Gadgets can be moved by dragging their movement handles (the white gear icon at the top corner of each gadget).

To alter an existing gadget, right click on it's movement handle while gadgets are unlocked, and choose 'Modify Gadget'.

When moving gadgets around on the screen, you can align them to another gadget by dragging the move handle over the top of another move handle. The gadget you are dragging will align itself either horizontally or vertically with it. If you move the gadget too far from the horizontal or vertical axes, alignment mode will turn off (it should hopefully become clear when you try it!).

Macros

The raid and group frames allow you to specify macros for various mouse buttons and the mouse wheel. These are standard RIFT macros, with a couple of extra Gadgets features:

Use @unit to refer to the unit the frame is showing. For example "cast @unit Healing Breath".

Use modifer it you want:

Missing small blue button

I just install your addon being curious to see those gadgets in action but i was unable to find your small blue button below the mini-map.

Also there was no message saying that the addon was there in-game

Edit: As i'm french speaking i will correct google a bit with what you localize

That's a rather disappointing start to my addon's life!

The servers just went down for maintenance, but I did manage to log in on a level 1 character that had never used the addon, and the button was there for me.

Just had a thought - are you using any NK addons, or KBM, etc? It's possible my button ended up underneath theirs, as I think we're all putting our buttons in roughly the same place.

When the servers come back up, I'll clear out all of my saved variables and give it another go. Without that button, the addon is kinda useless

Thanks for the translations, that's really helpful. I only put the Google ones in to test localization, they must have looked really painful to a French speaker!

I'm using NK addons and KBM and it is possible your button being hidden under NK one as i did move KBM else where already.

Since that damned unannounced maintenant i was unable to get back in-game and move NK button and check to find yours.

Concerning translation, i like to be helpful and play the game on my own language so when it's possible i try to provide addons authors with translation for others like me

Edit: Maintenance is finish so i went back in-game and disable gadgets in order to move nk button and after re-enabling gadget and loading the game i was still unable to see your button. Not sure what's wrong.

Just got back on, and I was wrong about the default location. The button's location is saved as an account variable, so my level 1 character had the location saved.

I've updated the image, where it puts itself by default shouldn't clash with NK after all, so I'm a bit worried about where it's got to!

Edit: Cleared out variables, changed language to French, and logged in. I still get the button, so hopefully it's just behind something else on your screen.

What I did notice is that my default buff filters are broken in French (which makes sense), I'm going to have to put the config options in for these sooner rather than later.

I just try something and reloaded the game in english to see if there was anything related to french or english about it and still unable to see your button.

Also it's hard to say if your addon was loaded or not since there is no message showing on startup for me to see if gadgets was loaded or not like many other addons do by saying "addonname version: loaded"

Can you try typing in:

/wt log level 3

/reloadui

You should get plenty of messages then, if the addon is loaded.

You could also try:

/gadget add
/gadget unlock
/gadget lock

And:

/gadget list

to list all of your gadget IDs

And:

/gadget remove <gadgetId>

to remove a gadget.

Ok i just did what you told me to try.

Gadget is loaded correctly but on my main character i can't figure out why i can't see the button at all. I did try on a reroll and saw the button but not on my main char.

I did the "/wt log level 3" but what's the default value in order to get back to what it was before.

On another note you'll need to save your addons file as utf8 in order to see the french accent from the translation.

Thanks, I did notice the broken accents when I was testing. I've applied your translations and will save the files as UTF8 this time.

I'm just zipping up a new version that will put the button right in the middle of the screen the first time in, as well as include a welcome message. I think that's safer, as it's currently attached to the little tray where your mail icon is and if someone moves that elsewhere, the button will get lost too.

Funny it's exactly my case as i did move that tray elsewhere so your button was probalbly lost in space... Before your new version is approved could you tell me which savedvariables i would need to clear before getting your new version.

Ahh, that explains that then.

If you need to clear the variables, it'll be:

Interface/Saved/<email>/SavedVariables/wtLibCore.lua

However, I added the command "/gadget reset" to version 0.3.1, which will put it back in the centre of the screen.

Welcome, great addon, but there is a wish.
In the player unit frame add an indicator of planar charge is not enough.
Just noticed there is a map marker to the frame number.

Also noticed a bug in the teleport appears frequently.


I want to translate it into Russian, the language file, I found, but it seems to me there is not all, could you make all the variables in a text file?

Thanks for the bug report, I've uploaded a fix which should hopefully be approved fairly soon.

I'll add a planar charge indicator, that's something the frames definitely need.

I'm going to be working on the localizations next - there's a lot of text I need to convert, so it may take me a day or two to fix.

Nice work, already started work on a few gadgets

Question: For gadgets written by other parties, do you have a prefered naming scheme for them? e.g. Gadgets_addonName?

Just to test our your stuff I'm putting together a quick image loader gadget that allows you to load and position static images. Only 10 mins into writing the gadget and I think I'll have it working in another 10 mins, the example gadgets provided everthing I've needed so far, no rush on the API documentation

Next-up will be to convert KnowThineEnemy into a gadget too, should be pretty easy.

ohh yes, in answer to your question regarding the usefulness of your code to other addon developers, I think it is VERY useful and API documentation will be a boon when you are ready to write it.
