KaruulAlert beta
Version: 1.32 beta
by: Thorarin [More]
This is the beta release of KaruulAlert. Some major internal changes have been made. If you are a power user, please check it out. I could use some help testing these changes.
1.32 beta
----
The ability scanner has received a major overhaul. First of all, the amount of CPU resources it uses has been reduced drastically. You can now play with the ability scanner enabled without noticing a slowdown on most systems. Secondly, it now scans the entire raid force and their targets for new buffs. This should make it much quicker to pick up specific buffs in a boss fight.

A very basic tutorial has been added to get first time users started. New users will be guided through the process of learning your character's abilities and buffs. It will also explain how to open the main configuration dialog in the future and how to access the built-in help system. The tutorial can be started manually using the "/kalert tutorial" command.

When KaruulAlert detects that the user is getting performance warnings (or being dangerously close to getting them), it will now suggest a tweak in the configuration settings that makes them less likely to occur (this setting was already available in the configuration dialog).

Note: There is a cosmetic problem with the "message box" screen used by the tutorial, causing the buttons to be the wrong size sometimes. Unfortunately this is a Rift client issue and I've been unable to find a workaround so far.

Actually, as part of the 1.30 refactoring, the cooldown is now kept separately from the "unusable" state of the ability, so it can be changed.

Are you using an alert with the "Ready" status and a warning, or a "Cooldown" alert with a timer? They behave slightly differently.

I've changed the behavior of the cooldown type alerts to still show the timer, even if the ability is also currently unusable. Before the icon would be visible, but the timer would disappear.

In case you prefer a notification that shows when the ability can be used, that would significantly change the meaning of the current alerts. I would need to add a third type of ability alert or something. I'll take it into consideration for 1.31 (as it's a new feature).

Rogue cooldowns have never worked correctly with Karuual Alert due to how they are processed. The addon assumes that if you have insufficient energy to activate an ability then it is still on CD.

I reported this to Karuul over a year ago and he said nothing could be done. This is the only reason I run nkRebuff as well as KA so that I get proper notification of when an ability actually does come off of CD.

In a raid environment you may not notice it because you will almost certainly have Fervor up but if you remove Fervor and test on a dummy it is fairly easily reproducible.

Does this version co-exist with the current stable Karuul Alert? I wouldn't want to overwrite any saved variables if I install this version for testing.

The first error seems to be related to some strange behavior where the cooldown on the ability gets paused immediately after using it. I've never seen this with other abilities. Luckily my Rogue was high enough level to test it

The second error is related to combo-point alerts. I think I have both of them fixed, but I want to do some additional testing before releasing a beta 3.

Thanks for the reports!

Can you download beta 2 and get me the complete error message if it happens again?

Since many things are now so much faster, I've actually removed some of the Watchdog safeguards since they didn't make sense anymore. Perhaps there is something I overlooked though.

Indeed, most of them had problems actually. I'm quite puzzled how it managed to work properly throughout my testing on dummy, dungeons and raid.

In any case, beta 2 should take case of the buff alert problem. Also a localization issue has been fixed.

Thanks for your feedback

Some impressive changes, a few minor bugs

The first thing I noticed with the new beta version was the response time. I had an alert to show skill=ready "Ravaging Darkness", a cleric cab skill that needs at least one stack of decay to cast. If I used all my decays, the alert vanished, and then re-appeared... at first I thought, 'odd bug', and then I realized: it vanished because the skill is no longer available without any decays, which never happened previously! The add-on is moving extremely fast, it's excellent.

SOME Buff/Debuff timers on target don't appear to be working.

Vex (checking for active@target)
Code:
Vex;1;T;player.target;1;T;T;T;Vex;A0A0277E199184720;0;1;F;F;0;0;Rift;Data/\UI\ability_icons\vex.dds;925;687;48;48;1;0.5;;CENTER;1;;1;1;1;30;T;T;CENTER;30;T;6;F;0
Lightning (checking for missing@target)
Code:
Lightning;1;T;player.target;1;F;T;T;Lightning;A32E80B1D6A7C166A;0;1;F;F;0;0;Rift;Data/\UI\ability_icons\shaman-lighting_hammer.dds;921;685;48;48;1;0.5;;CENTER;1;;1;1;1;30;T;T;CENTER;30;T;14;F;0
Bane of Madness (checking for active@player, self cast only)
Code:
Bane of Madness;1;T;player;1;T;T;T;Bane of Madness;;0;1;F;F;0;0;Rift;Data/\UI\item_icons\2h_hammer_water_epic_a.dds;816;685;48;48;1;0.5;;CENTER;1;;1;1;1;30;T;T;CENTER;30;T;6;F;0
Caregiver's Blessing Buff (Checking for active@target, self cast only)
Code:
Caregiver's Buff;1;T;player.target;1;T;F;T;Caregiver's Blessing;A73FF4B9D9B52ADA7;0;1;F;F;0;0;Rift;Data/\UI\ability_icons\spiritofsaints3.dds;748;987;48;48;1;1;;CENTER;1;;0;0;0;30;T;T;CENTER;30;T;6;F;0
Asphodel's Purifier Crystal (checking for active@target, self cast only)
Code:
Crystal;1;T;player.target;1;T;F;T;Asphodel's Purifier Crystal;none;0;1;F;F;0;0;Rift;Data/\UI\item_icons\enchanting_material_16a.dds;633;988;48;48;1;1;;CENTER;1;;1;1;1;30;T;T;CENTER;30;T;6;F;0
None of these function. The spaces where I had them on the screen remain blank in or out of combat. Edit Layout verifies the alert is still in place, and they still appear in the alerts list.

However, things like self cast buffs work fine:
Rage of the North (checking for Ready, combat only, with full CD timer)
Code:
Rage of the North;1;T;player;2;T;T;F;Rage of the North;A05D6203D8AA4B8C8;0;1;F;F;0;0;Rift;Data/\UI\ability_icons\spiritofcrusader2.dds;871;685;48;48;1;0.5;;CENTER;1;;1;1;1;30;T;T;CENTER;30;T;91;F;0
Without having knowledge of lua coding, my first guess would be this has something to do with the new target-of-target feature; but again, I'm just starting school for programming *shrug* what do I know?

Gotta be honest tho- with your history of bug fixes, I'm not too worried at all... and the improvements are amazing. Looks very promising.

My alerts aren't showing up

Is there someone specific I have to do to 're-enable' my alerts? I saw they all carried over, but none were showing up. I only tested for about 30 minutes, but I tried editting the alert, switching to a different one and back and neither would get them to show up.

Alert set only had 3 simple alerts (2 of which were tested). A 5 second countdown before radiant spores falls off or if it's missing, and another showing if I was above 80 charge. Neither would show up.
