Grid Snapping

Typing "/gadgets grid 8" for example, will snap all movement and resizes to an 8 pixel grid.
Type "/gadgets grid" with no number to reset snapping.


Quick Start



You will see a round button with a Gear icon in the middle of your screen. Drag this button to where you want it by left clicking and dragging.

Right click on the button and choose 'Add Gadget' to add a gadget to your screen.

Left clicking on the button will unlock (and re-lock) all of your gadgets. When unlocked, Gadgets can be moved by dragging their movement handles (the white gear icon at the top corner of each gadget).

To alter an existing gadget, right click on it's movement handle while gadgets are unlocked, and choose 'Modify Gadget'.

When moving gadgets around on the screen, you can align them to another gadget by dragging the move handle over the top of another move handle. The gadget you are dragging will align itself either horizontally or vertically with it. If you move the gadget too far from the horizontal or vertical axes, alignment mode will turn off (it should hopefully become clear when you try it!).

Macros

The raid and group frames allow you to specify macros for various mouse buttons and the mouse wheel. These are standard RIFT macros, with a couple of extra Gadgets features:

Use @unit to refer to the unit the frame is showing. For example "cast @unit Healing Breath".

Use modifer it you want:

Your welcome. Btw your code is well written as far as I can tell. Not a lua expert but well structured easy to read. I could actually learn from it.

So, my ideas are more or less just that, ideas. So yeah.

so here are some more "ideas".

To counter the complexities of the outer circle mana, how about a Yin Yang, ya know those two tear drops that wrap to form a circle? One could be mana and the other health.

Another idea would be to use the health indicator color to identify hostility. Not sure how well this might work as we all identify green as health. But for example, your targeted health orb would be red for hostile,yellow for neutral and green for friendly?

I also think by looking at your current framework you could be making something much bigger, bigger in terms of utility. For example,

A gadget is simply an item that extends to the user interface a status in some form. Breaking down the gadgets into the raw form we have two very distinct gadgets. A numerical or alpha-numeric, a bar or image. So, by the examples you have written so far, a gadget is simply a grouping of these two types. What if your addon allowed the user to create their own gadget and specify what status to show where and what type they are? Not sure since I don't fully understand the lua code you have written but from the underlying file structure, man it seems like you are damn close to actually being able to expose it in this manner. Then you don't have to write the individual gadgets, the people using your addon would do it for you! There was a wow similar to this and I don't remember the name, but it was incredible. Man I really need to dig down into creating my own addons.

Thanks Zuel. The Orbs were never intended to be used as proper unit frames, but they do seem to be quite popular. Adding Elite status spikes should be quite simple to add.

This is already on the way, I'll probably switch my development focus from the 0.4 branch to getting 0.3 bug free with a few more gadgets this week, so expect to see something soon.

The thought here is to eliminate the need for the circular filling texture (like the sweep for buffs) by simply utilizing an irregular shaped frame to accomplish the same visuals. This should, if supported in the API, be far more efficient than using textures and provide even better visual updates (as it will not be limited to the images in the texture).
Unfortunately, the API is limited to rectangles. To achieve any sort of irregular shape, you have to use a texture with an alpha channel.

I would love to see some major improvements to the API around texture handling (I have posted on the official forums with some initial suggestions), as we're really limited in what we can do, and I have really big concerns around the efficiency of textures at the moment.

Thanks Zuel. The Orbs were never intended to be used as proper unit frames, but they do seem to be quite popular. Adding Elite status spikes should be quite simple to add.

Excelent addon.

There are some really nice variations for unit frames in particular the orb. Love the orbs and I dropped Archimedes for this one. In fact, due the orb functionality I can almost drop all default Trion unit frames, however..

The orbs are lacking a few things:

Must haves.
-Orb target/focus should have spikes to identify Elites/Boss's.

-A separate gadget for buffs. (target/focus/etc.) So I can completely drop Trions unit frames and use the orbs, they are way sexier.

Nice to haves.
-Orb background simply be the unit portrate? woo that would be sexy.

-Probably a ton more work but I'd like to see the Charge/Mana worked into the Orb unit frame, such that Mana/Charge are a circle around the orb.

-Lagometer? Like the FPS gadget would be fine.

I'd noticed some problems myself with ready checks, role icons, elite stars, etc, and needed to check whether or not it was only happening in my development version. Apparently it's effecting everyone

Localization

I've loaded the current set of localized phrases into CurseForge. I'll be using this to manage all of the localization for Gadgets, so if anyone wants to help out with localization, please use this.

Sorry, been a bit busy the last couple of days, and there's quite a large list of requests building up

The problem with colouring the health orbs is that I can't do it in code. With the health bars (being rectangular), I can colour them by allowing a background colour to show through the texture, but with the orbs, I need to create a new image for every colour. The addon API just isn't quite clever enough yet to be able to handle lots of the things I'd like to do.

I will create some alternative orb images, but you may need to edit the templates to select them in the short term - I haven't got the code to handle configuration of templates finished yet.

I'd had the same thought myself when scaling the Soul Vitality/Planar Charge gadgets. It needs a "maintain aspect ratio" tick box. Not sure where to put it yet, but it will be added
