Grid Snapping

Typing "/gadgets grid 8" for example, will snap all movement and resizes to an 8 pixel grid.
Type "/gadgets grid" with no number to reset snapping.


Quick Start



You will see a round button with a Gear icon in the middle of your screen. Drag this button to where you want it by left clicking and dragging.

Right click on the button and choose 'Add Gadget' to add a gadget to your screen.

Left clicking on the button will unlock (and re-lock) all of your gadgets. When unlocked, Gadgets can be moved by dragging their movement handles (the white gear icon at the top corner of each gadget).

To alter an existing gadget, right click on it's movement handle while gadgets are unlocked, and choose 'Modify Gadget'.

When moving gadgets around on the screen, you can align them to another gadget by dragging the move handle over the top of another move handle. The gadget you are dragging will align itself either horizontally or vertically with it. If you move the gadget too far from the horizontal or vertical axes, alignment mode will turn off (it should hopefully become clear when you try it!).

Macros

The raid and group frames allow you to specify macros for various mouse buttons and the mouse wheel. These are standard RIFT macros, with a couple of extra Gadgets features:

Use @unit to refer to the unit the frame is showing. For example "cast @unit Healing Breath".

Use modifer it you want:

Hi,

Just back from vacation so need a bit of time to get back into the swing of things before I start working on changes to Gadgets.

However, for now, you could manually copy the settings from one character to another until I get some export/import or shared settings functionality in place.

If you look in your main character's saved variables folder:

Interface\Saved\<email>\<shard>\<char>\SavedVariables

There is a file called "wtLibGadget.lua"

This contains the settings for all of the Gadgets for that character. If you copy this file into the same place for another of your characters, that character should get exactly the same Gadget configuration.

Do this while you're not logged in on the character you're copying the settings to, otherwise the settings will get overwritten when you log out.

Hopefully this will work OK.

Perfect! I was looking for the savedVariables but couldn't find it where I thought it'd be. This is a perfectly acceptable workaround until you get things rolling again

Thanks for the great feedback. The aggro indication on the raid frames isn't great at the moment, I will look into that. If you're seeing a red background when someone's health drops, that's actually a bug!

In terms of the frames sometimes being on top of the bags, that may be something I can fix by changing the strata for all Gadgets. Will need to check what else that will effect though.

The combo points gadget was knocked up really quickly tbh, and needs some work. When I look at updating this, I'll look into adding some more options around how combo points are displayed.

Turning off Background Boxes

Currently, there isn't. However, I think this may be the next thing I add as so many people want to get rid of those boxes.

The good news is, I was chatting to Zorba shortly before I went away, and we should hopefully be getting some functionality that will allow us to completely get rid of those boxes at some point.

Copying Settings

Some feed-back

Excellent work. I’m an add-on-oholic and have been playing around with gadget some. I really like your approach.

Some feed-back:

Personally I still find it difficult to spot when somebody has agro in the raidframes. The red border and red background help, but it only really jumps at you when the health-bar is going down and you see the red background. How about making the name bright red as well? Or maybe have it flashing, alternating between white and bright red? Possibly with an option to switch off the flashing for tank specs. (Just brainstorming )

A minor issue is that the raid-frames are sometimes on top. I position my raid-frames bottom left, at the same position as my (open) bags, so currently on occasion the raid-frames hide part of my inventory. Closing and reopening seems to solve the issue though.

I prefer semi-transparent orbs as combo-tracker. I’m currently using the myUI combo tracker (I have myUI installed only for this), which is pretty good. Combo points are shown as orbs which change colour as you build up combat points as well as change in opacity: going from light yellow very transparent for 1 CP to dark red and solid at 5 CP’s. Additionally, opacity is increased when out of combat and there’s a scalable power bar below.

The transparent box is normal. At the moment (hopefully not forever), RIFT has certain restrictions that mean I cannot prevent the area of the screen where the unit frame sits from processing mouse clicks.

Without the transparent box, you just have an invisible part of the screen that doesn't respond to the mouse, and it's really confusing. The box is there simply to show you that something is there.

If you disable the click functionality on your target frame, the box should disappear. This might not be a bad idea for the target, seeing as click-to-target makes no sense on a target frame anyway.

I cheated, and made the system think every spell was uninterruptable. It was tricky to track down, but I got there in the end. New version on Curse, just uploading to here now (it'll need approval, so takes a little longer).
Much appreciated on the fix. Think I may edit the image for uninterruptable casts, it doesn't seem to pop as much to me as the interruptable one does, but that's just me personally.

Yeah, I only really noticed once I went into an actual dungeon and realized, wait a minute I can't interrupt that spell!...
I cheated, and made the system think every spell was uninterruptable. It was tricky to track down, but I got there in the end. New version on Curse, just uploading to here now (it'll need approval, so takes a little longer).
