Grid Snapping

Typing "/gadgets grid 8" for example, will snap all movement and resizes to an 8 pixel grid.
Type "/gadgets grid" with no number to reset snapping.

Quick Start

You will see a round button with a Gear icon in the middle of your screen. Drag this button to where you want it by left clicking and dragging.

Right click on the button and choose 'Add Gadget' to add a gadget to your screen.

Left clicking on the button will unlock (and re-lock) all of your gadgets. When unlocked, Gadgets can be moved by dragging their movement handles (the white gear icon at the top corner of each gadget).

To alter an existing gadget, right click on it's movement handle while gadgets are unlocked, and choose 'Modify Gadget'.

When moving gadgets around on the screen, you can align them to another gadget by dragging the move handle over the top of another move handle. The gadget you are dragging will align itself either horizontally or vertically with it. If you move the gadget too far from the horizontal or vertical axes, alignment mode will turn off (it should hopefully become clear when you try it!).

Macros

The raid and group frames allow you to specify macros for various mouse buttons and the mouse wheel. These are standard RIFT macros, with a couple of extra Gadgets features:

Use @unit to refer to the unit the frame is showing. For example "cast @unit Healing Breath".

Use modifer it you want:

Code:
cast [shift] @unit Symbol of the Torch
cast Symbol of the Sun
Use the following syntax to have a macro carry out different actions depending on your current role:

Code:
:if role == 1 or role == 6 then
target @unit
:end
:if role == 2  then
target @unit
cast Healing Spray
:end
:if role == 3 or role == 4 or role == 5 then
cast [shift] @unit Symbol of the Torch
cast @unit Symbol of the Sun
:end
Profiles

Save, load and delete your profiles. How to save, load and delete your profiles you can see on my video guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr7bcidyFv8&;

Castbar is broken with
0.3.71-beta
0.3.72-beta
It no longer 'fills' as you cast.

New theme is great, forget about big orange balls tbh. My OCD says thanks.

Range to focus is possible. RIFT doesn't expose any range data at all, it just tells us where each unit is, and I use that information to calculate the distance.

There's no reason I couldn't make the Range Finder configurable so that you can choose which unit to measure range to.

Thanks for the input

On my client, it's actually weighted even more towards rendering than that (I guess different CPUs and GFX cards changes the interactions a bit).

I've spent a fair amount of time tonight benchmarking things, and I think I know where most of the CPU is going with my stuff - it's the use of 'Mask' frames to handle things like shrinking a health bar without squashing the texture.

And just in general, having a lot of things on the screen slows Rift down far more than I think is reasonable. Just displaying 1000 small coloured boxes knocks 7 FPS off my client while doing absolutely nothing else, and that sort of number is really easy to hit when dealing with raid frames and buffs.

I'll be talking to Zorba to see if there are any optimizations in the pipeline, as well as doing what I can to lessen the impact Gadgets has (redesigning the way I handle health/mana bars to be less flexible but faster being first on the list).

Basically, I think a lot of addons out there are pushing the Rift API a little bit further than Trion anticipated
It may be easier to do something such as... change the unit frame color scheme when a CLEANSABLE debuff is on them, etc. Don't display the actual buffs/debuffs on raid frames... just color code them. It'd make it easier to utilize as a cleanser too. Color scheme for non-cleansable debuffs, cleansable debuffs, etc. Should save a lot on rendering in 10-20 man raids.

I know what you mean, and the Octanus raid frames were originally done like that. Maybe I'll have another go at a version that works in that way - I couldn't get the names to stand out clearly against the background first time I tried it.

The problem we have is that the default UI has the option to outline fonts to make them stand out, which we can't really do as effectively in an addon (yet).

However, *right now*, I'm trying to work out why showing 20 raid frames is having such a dire impact on my FPS, and seeing if there is anything i can do about it. I'm sure this has got much worse lately, and I know it's something to do with how many visual elements are on the screen, and not actual code. All good fun!
If it helps, CPU utilization of the addon seems to be about 60% to 70% weighted towards rendering, according to your little CPU monitor gadget. So I think that feeds your theory.

I can play successfully with Gadgets enabled on raids. But I get 5 to 10 fps better performance when it's disabled. I love gadgets, so I normally pretend I'm not lagged. But on progression fights, like Laethys, I need every ounce I can get. As such I end up doing a large portion of my raid time, and Conquest time, with only one addon enabled (nkWardrobe, to swap roles/gear easier).

Maybe try disabling pieces of the UI at a time to see what the culprit is:
- Disable mana bars and don't check for updates for them
- Same for hp, with mana back on
- etc, 1 piece of the UI at a time to see what the lag-causer is

Just looking at the addon code you have last night I'd wager Buffs are causing a bit of lag. I enabled a sheep-watch addon at one point and it sent my FPS to the floor during a raid, constantly checking every buff & debuff to see if I'd been sheeped. Yeah that got disabled in a friggin hurry, let me tell ya.

But it makes me wonder if NOT checking buffs/debuffs at all would speed things up.

Thanks, loads of really good ideas here. If I can get these in quickly, I'll add them into an up-coming release. I'm going through a bit of a tidy up/optimize pass at the moment, so I'm trying to avoid adding too much new functionality until I've got the current stuff exactly how I want it.

I am kinda working on all of those things! There's a new addon on the way, called "Gadgets: Buffs" which will provide separate buff panel (icons) and buff bar gadgets.

Well the artwork is actually from moulin Artwork for Swords (Skulls) which made it work for the addon Swords. I only made it compatible with the combopoint gadget .

You can find the image here skulls
I honestly thought those were pandas. LOL
Combo Pandas would be awesome!

Edit: Thanks for the image ulTimaS, I'll try to add this as a built in option assuming Moulin is OK with me doing that.

Not sure if you're working on this stuff or not but:

1 - Be nice if we had the reverse option for buffs/debuffs: Hide all but mine & hide mine, as two sep options

2 - Be nice if we could hide debuffs, or hide buffs, selectively... not all or nothing.

3 - Option to set them to bars, instead of icons? X rows, 1 col, bars growing up/down from unit frame... that kinda thing.

IE: My typical layout, when addons allow it in any mmo, is:

Player unit frame with OTHER debuffs as bars above
Target unit frame with MY debuffs as bars above
Neither showing buffs.

Ideally I could also set up a OTHER debuffs bar below/above Focus unit frame
And a ALL BUFFS icon list/grid for current target, as a separate "gadget", movable and click-off-able (least critical of the above)
