Grid Snapping

Typing "/gadgets grid 8" for example, will snap all movement and resizes to an 8 pixel grid.
Type "/gadgets grid" with no number to reset snapping.


Quick Start



You will see a round button with a Gear icon in the middle of your screen. Drag this button to where you want it by left clicking and dragging.

Right click on the button and choose 'Add Gadget' to add a gadget to your screen.

Left clicking on the button will unlock (and re-lock) all of your gadgets. When unlocked, Gadgets can be moved by dragging their movement handles (the white gear icon at the top corner of each gadget).

To alter an existing gadget, right click on it's movement handle while gadgets are unlocked, and choose 'Modify Gadget'.

When moving gadgets around on the screen, you can align them to another gadget by dragging the move handle over the top of another move handle. The gadget you are dragging will align itself either horizontally or vertically with it. If you move the gadget too far from the horizontal or vertical axes, alignment mode will turn off (it should hopefully become clear when you try it!).

Macros

The raid and group frames allow you to specify macros for various mouse buttons and the mouse wheel. These are standard RIFT macros, with a couple of extra Gadgets features:

Use @unit to refer to the unit the frame is showing. For example "cast @unit Healing Breath".

Use modifer it you want:

Well in my own opinion, I think that Gadgets is much simpler and user friendly as well as looking better, than myUI. I recommend this instead, simply for every feature/look. I am working on making a custom UI right now using it. It's not yet ready for release though.

is this addon better than myui addon that someone else has made. Myui is what i use now but im looking in to changing to this one. Is it as easy to set up as myui?

I should have been more specific. I was able to do just that. The problem is, I'm not able to have it show up on mouse over as well as combat. That's the only feature it's missing to complete my UI. Everything else is set up right to the best of my ability.

You should be able to set the out-of-combat opacity to zero to do this. If that's not working for you, let me know and I'll see if I can work out what's going wrong.

I can't seem to figure it out, so I came here to ask - how do I make the unit frames I create with this, only show up during combat like I can with the default unit frames? Is that not possible yet?

Ah, OK, cool

You start with the template, which is:

Gadgets/wtLibUnitFrame/templates/StandardFrameUpsideDown.lua

In there, the element is "barHealth", which is defined at line 81. In this instance, the colour is set using a binding to "taggedColor", which is a virtual property of a unit (ie. one we've made up that isn't part of the RIFT API itself).

Most of these are defined in:

Gadgets/wtLibUnitFrame/wtUnitFrame_VirtualProperties.lua

In there, on line 98 is the definition for taggedColor:

That's creating a property for units called taggedColor, which will be updated whenever the tagged or relation values change on the unit.

It returns gray if the unit is tagged by someone else, otherwise returns the shade of green that you don't like

Just play with the r=0,g=0.7,b=0 values there...

The only other thing to be aware of is, unless you create your own addon, hosting your own custom version of the template, you're going to need to update this again every time I release a new version (until I get colour customisation working).

I was referring to the player, target, and ToT type bars. I'm using the "StandardFrameUpsideDown" version.

If you want to remove the power/mana/energy bar from a template, you'd have to change the template definition. Unfortunately, this resource bar is fairly integral to how my frames size themselves so you may also need to hack other bits of the template that refer to the resource bar.

However, I think Noshei's Gadgets may include a template that is just a health bar.

Is there any way to force unit width/height in the ini instead of stretching in game? I would love to get precise units on screen as replacement for NKthings since he's gone.
EDIT - Disregard, apparently for some reason it took two logouts but the width/height are there.

Now is there any way to hax the power bar out of a unit? My target of target never shows a power bar in any of the setups I do.

I'm also looking at the coordinates, and it doesn't seem like they're using my screen resolution as basis for them? Or perhaps the scale's off?
EDIT - Figured out scale, it was based off of my 80%.

That was only in the very first release - since fixed.

Porsche did mention the beta though, I wonder if any of the strata/layers changed between beta and live...
I've got 1.11r1 of the Distance addon, plus 0.3.89 of Gadgets and I've been on Beta almost exclusively for the five weeks testing. I'm updating Distance to 1.11r2 and I'll be spending some time on live before launch so I'll see if that issue appears after the update and if it appears on live.

Have you got the Distance addon installed? Adelea mentioned that one version of it incorrectly effected the layering of all Gadgets.
That was only in the very first release - since fixed.

Porsche did mention the beta though, I wonder if any of the strata/layers changed between beta and live...
